Invocations for Kwanzaa
Seven Nights with Nana and Achebe

Work and Responsibility

On the third night of Kwanzaa, Achebe awoke to his dreamlife. He and Nana find themselves in a meadow of wildflowers - a riot of colors, textures and shapes. Each plant unique - but so intimately interwoven with its neighbor - so as not to be able to tell where one began the the other ended - complimenting and flourishing in each others presence. Here was community at its most harmonious and accepting. The Spirit of Ujima spoke:

"We are one - One heart beating in many breasts. What happens to one of us, happens to all of us. For we are One."
